Hartford Advocate: "I Had an Abortion": "I'm certain my life would have been very different if I hadn't been able to have that abortion at 23. I am indebted to the men and women who sacrificed and fought for my legal right to have it. I am also grateful to have a son by a man who wasn't aborted by his mom. "

Transcript: Democratic Presidential Debate in N.H. (washingtonpost.com):
SHARPTON: Well, first of all, let me say this. I wanted to say to Governor Dean, don't be hard on yourself about hooting and hollering. If I had spent the money you did and got 18 percent, I'd still be in Iowa hooting and hollering.
(LAUGHTER)
(APPLAUSE)
So, don't worry about it, Howard.

DEAN: Thanks, Reverend.

I am very sad today, thinking about all the people that have been killed and all the lies that have been spread to satisfy our lusts. I am most sad for the abortionists and their assistants, who every day break the bones of babies to bring them out of the womb one limb at a time, or vacuum their bodies into a container, or poison them with salt solutions in the one place God has designed for them to be safe. Also, for the fathers, who have no legal ability to stop the mothers of their children from killing them. And for the mothers who turn to abortion to keep men who will otherwise abandon mother and baby. And for the grandparents who urge that their children to abort the little ones who should comfort them in their old age.
I will be marching today in downtown DC, and I hope it will inspire me (as it has in the past) to see that I'm not crazy, that there are tens of thousands of other normal people who know that abortion is wrong. But right now I am sad.

United Press International: Analysis: How smart is Bush?
This story reports that GW's SAT score, 1206, translates to an IQ of 120-125 ish, putting him in the 95th percentile. I am really depressed to think that 1200 on the SAT is the 95th percentile of intelligence.
I got an 1140 on that test when I was 13 years old. It's just not that hard. Objectively.
It scares me to think I am supposed to be particularly smart according to these sorts of tests/theories. I don't feel particularly smart. I want there to be lots of people who are much, much smarter than I am. If for no other reason than that I can learn from them and not have to figure it out for myself.
Or are there smart people who would score poorly on these tests, and their intelligence is simply not captured in that way? I'm open to that possibility too.

Good to Great's Leadership Model Looks Familiar to Christians - Christianity Today Magazine: "It's one of the most demeaning, barbaric things to think of human beings as a lump of inert coal that can be fired on with a ray gun called motivation. Great companies find people who are intrinsically self-motivated. If they're only motivated because someone motivated them, they're the wrong people. "

LONDON (Reuters) - British war leader Winston Churchill's foul-mouthed 104-year old parrot refused to surrender to newshounds Monday after a British newspaper tracked the bird down and discovered it was still alive.
'They've been trying to get him to talk all day, but he's not saying much,' said Sylvia Martin, who manages Heathfield Nurseries where parrot Charlie has lived for the last 12 years.
Charlie, who kept Churchill company during World War II, was famous for occasionally squawking four-letter obscenities about Hitler. But Martin told Reuters the bird has mellowed.
'He doesn't say very much anymore -- usually just hello and goodbye. But he does get so excited about music and dances to it. He's very fit.'"

Cool: Last night also was a big blow to the political influence of labor unions. Dean and Gephardt had the backing of government unions and labor unions, respectively.
You're a dragon. You're smart and cunning, and enjoy taking risks. Your need for independence is an advantage, but sometimes it alienates you from others. As far as *good* and *evil*, you're pretty neutral - but you may have something of a wicked streak.

KRT Wire | 10/01/2003 | More gays and lesbians than ever are becoming parents: "'When I was young, I didn't know whether to fake it so I could have kids or live the life I wanted,' said Woolley, now a stay-at-home mom. 'When I realized having children and being gay weren't mutually exclusive, a huge burden lifted.'"
Boomer deathwatch blog. Good stuff. The kids of the "greatest generation," so named because they sacrificed so much so that the boomers could live lives of unending childishness.
So Deeply Annoying -
In Internet Explorer 5, there was a little area at the bottom of the viewing area that showed me the URL of the link when I moused over it. I used this area All the Time to decide if I wanted to click on the link. Now the only way to find out what's there is to click. Big waste of time. Anyone know how to get this thing back?

Out of Town
- Dear Reader, I will be out of town for a week. If WiFi is all it's cracked up to be, I might blog. Otherwise not. Look out for the Old Oligarch for me - make sure he feeds the fish every day, doesn't put metal in the microwave, and stays happy.

You are a Theory Slut. The true elite of the postmodernists, you collect avant-garde Indonesian hiphop compilations and eat journal articles for breakfast. You positively live for theory. It really doesn't matter what kind, as long as the words are big and the paragraph breaks few and far between.
What kind of postmodernist are you!?
